Art News - 001

The one good thing algorithms do for me is feed me a healthy diet of cool art news and I accumulate the ones related to what I do. So why not share some art news?

What kind of art news, you might ask?

Truly ANYTHING. What’s going on this week in ART.

Arcane Season 2 gets a release date and art book

These two things weren’t announced at the same time but let’s toss ‘em both in this post because I LOVE Arcane. I have talked about this show in every single one of my classes. And unlike some of my other hyper-fixations, Arcane DESERVES the attention. Storytelling, characters, art, animation, music - all perfect. Check out clip from Geeked Week.

Act 1 launches Nov. 9 you KNOW I’ll be posting about it.

And, of course, The Art and Making of Arcance book launches on December 31, 2024 and is now available for pre-orders. That’s not even an affiliate link! I just LOVE THIS SERIES.

Studies show arts and crafts boost mental health

This article from CTV News came across my desk (phone) today about how making arts and crafts are proven to boost mental health as much as having a job. Wowza! We should all just be making art instead of working.

Here are a couple highlights from the article:

“All forms of art can be beneficial in boosting mental health. Benefits include: increase in self-esteem, reduction in anxiety/stress, improving communication, and fostering creativity,” said Dr. Frank Clark, a psychiatrist with Prisma Health and a poet, via email.

“A sense of mastery is important for well-being, and there is inherently a sense of mastery associated with crafting and creating art; that is, people can see their progress and be proud of what they are producing,” said Dr. Helen Keyes, cognitive psychologist and head of the school of psychology and sport science at Anglia Ruskin University, via email.
